  • 1/2 cup of neutral oil (I used canola)
  • 1 package of tofu (16 oz / 454 g)
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/41/3 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup of orange juice
  • 1/31/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons crushed ginger
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture and cut into 1-inch nuggets.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, salt, and garlic powder; gradually add water to form a batter.
  3. Coat tofu nuggets in the batter.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat; fry tofu until golden brown on all sides.
  5. For the sauce, combine orange juice, sugar, tamari, rice vinegar, Sriracha, ginger, and garlic in another bowl; simmer until thickened.
  6. Add fried tofu to the sauce and mix well.
  7. Serve over rice or quinoa.
