  • 1 pound Italian sausage (ground)
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 onion (diced)
  • 6 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
  • 1 (14 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 2 ½ cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 oz mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • ½ cup fresh parsley (chopped)

Instructions

  1. In a large heavy-bottom pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the Italian sausage, ground beef, and diced onion; cook until browned and onions are translucent.
  2. Stir in minced garlic and sauté for about 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Add tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, chicken broth, fennel seeds, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil then reduce heat to simmer for about 20 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in shredded mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, and chopped parsley until melted. Serve hot.
