  • 400 ml whipping cream
  • 2 bay leaves
  • A handful of thyme sprigs
  • 1 crushed garlic clove
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 pounds butternut squash, thinly sliced and peeled
  • 100 grams grated mature white cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine whipping cream, bay leaves, thyme sprigs, crushed garlic, and ground nutmeg; mix well.
  3. In a baking dish, layer half of the sliced butternut squash evenly. Pour half of the cream mixture over it.
  4. Repeat layering with the remaining squash and cream mixture.
  5. Dot with butter and sprinkle grated cheddar cheese on top. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden brown and tender.
